With a rich history, four professional sports teams and a thriving entertainment scene, it has always been curious why Philadelphia was not home to a standout music event. That's about to change, as the Made in America Festival is set to come to City of Brotherly Love on September 1 and 2.
Anybody who picks up Made in America Festival tickets will be in for a treat. The two-day festival has attracted some of the biggest names in the music industry, and there is something for just about everyone. Held along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the first day of the event includes performances from the likes of Jay-Z, Skrillex, Passion Pit and Gary Clark, Jr.
While the first day is impressive, the second day more than keeps the momentum going. The closing performances include Pearl Jam, who is still rocking more than 20 years after bringing grunge to the pop scene. Fellow rock superstar Chris Cornell will also be performing along with up-and-comers Drake, Jill Scott and DJ Shadow.
While the talent may be the main attraction at the festival, there are so many more interesting points that make Made in America Festival a first-class event. The scene will be uber-green with recycling programs and other green initiatives. On the grounds will be a free filtered water program, mobile phone charging stations and gourmet food trucks … though you could get standard fare grub if that's what you're craving.
Though it's young compared to other festivals such as Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Coachella, there's no doubting the Made In America Festival will be a big success. If you haven't figured out what you are doing for the holiday weekend just yet, hit up the fest. Already have plans? Well then cancel them and head to Philly for a little holiday weekend phun!
