Auto Club 500 Tickets

The Auto Club 500 is more than just a race that is held every year at the California Speedway in Fontana, California. This race is part of the NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing) Cup and takes place immediately after the Daytona 500 and immediately before the UAW-Dodge 400 making it the second race of the series. This race is sponsored by the Automobile Club of Southern California. Prior to 2005, the race was traditionally held in May until the NASCAR Realignment was made in that year and the race was moved to February. In June of 1997, NASCAR was returned to California after having been away for nearly a decade. It was led with the inaugural California 500, featuring 21 lead changes and over a dozen different drivers. Winners of the Auto Club 500 have included Matt Kenseth in 2006 and 2007, Greg Biffle in 2005, Jeff Gordon in 2004 and Kurt Busch in 2003. The name was changed to Auto Club 500 in 2003 due to a change in sponsor. Other titles the race has gone by include NAPA Auto Parts 500 and the California 500 presented by NAPA. Jeff Gordon has won this race three times; once in 1997, 1999 and 2004. The different divisions of NASCAR include the Sprint Cup (formerly Nextel Cup), the Nationwide Series, and the Craftsman Truck Series. There are over 35 different races in this series (the Sprint Cup). Winners for the Auto Club 500 are determined by the number of completed laps, including the car that crosses the finish line first. Points are awarded based on the drivers’ winning performance, and the driver with the most points at the end of the Sprint Cup Series wins the cup. The Auto Club 500 is the second in a list of over 30 races in the Sprint Cup. The drivers that show an early sign of a winning drive usually spell out victory at the end of the series.
