38 Special Concert Tickets

The group 38 Special might have started off sounding similar to other 1970s Southern rock bands such as Lynyrd Skynyrd or the Allman Brothers, but members soon realized they had a bit more edge than that. After their formation the band strayed from the classic Southern style, transitioning into a hybrid of the blues and rhythm with a heavier hard rock vibe. Fans of Southern rock on steroids pick up 38 Special tickets to get their fix.

The band, consisting of Donnie Van Zant (brother of Skynyrd's lead singer, Ronnie Van Zant) as singer, Jeff Carlisi on guitar, Don Barnes on guitar and vocals, Ken Lyons on bass, Jack Grondin on drums and Steve Brookins on drums, got together in 1975. After just two years of playing, 38 Special was signed to A&M Records and released two albums, neither of which garnered much attention.

By 1979, the group's new sound emerged, and they released Rockin' Into the Night, which earned them a bigger following and more success. Original bassist Ken Lyons left the band prior to the making of Rockin' Into the Night," and was replaced by Larry Junstrom. The group found its footing following their 1979 attempt and made it onto the charts beginning in 1981 with their album, Wild-Eyed Southern Boys. Songs like "Hold On Loosely," "Caught Up in You" and "Second Chance," resonated with fans later on in their career.
